GEOGRAPHY-UNIT 2

Landscape:  A sinonym is scenery

Temperature:  It´s physical magnitude that measures the warmth or coldness of a body or the atmosphere

Oasis: It is an area with vegetation and water that is isolated in the desert

Precipitation: rainfall

Riparian forest: It isdeciduous forest growing on both sides of the river courses

Grassland: It´s a biome formed by a succession of herbs and grasses, which develops in a temperate climate and experiences a warm season in the summer and cold in the winter season.
Settlement: place where is established a person or a community of people
Livestock: group of grazing animals that are bred for their exploitation
Scrub: land with bushes and weeds

Holm oakMediterranean tree that can be deciduous or evergreen

Logging: the work of felling, trimming, and transporting wood

Deforestation: destruction of a forest through logging or natural causes

Savannah: is a very big plain in the tropical climate

Taiga: vegetation formation with abundant coniferous forests

Tundra: vegetation of polar regions where there are't trees, and the ground is covered with mosses and lichens

Jungle: covered ground of very lush vegetation typical of tropical zones

Desert: a region that is almost devoid of vegetation because of low rainfall
Steppe: an extensive grassy plain usually without trees

Deciduous: the trees that lose their leaves during a part of the year

Evergreen: the trees that keep their leaves always

Meadows: large plain covered with grassy


NATURAL DISASTERS

Drought: long period of dry weather

Acid rain: rain that contains a high concentration of pollutants

Hurricane: Wind with a enormous force, usually originated in tropical areas, which revolves in large circles

Tornado: is like a hurricane

Tsunami: a big wave generated by an earthquake on the seabed

Sea levels rising: increasing the sea level by melting

Sandstorm: dust storm

Polar caps are melting: the ice is becoming water because of the pollution and the greenhouse

Flood: a place cover of water

Climate change: weather modification has taken place about his record at regional and global levels.

Greenhouse effect: phenomenon in which certain components of a gas atmosphere planetary retain some of the energy emitted when the soil has been heated by solar radiation.

Atmosphere: is the layer of gas surrounding a celestial body.
